Sauk Village Fire Department

Personnel and Units

The Sauk Village Police Department is comprised of 27 men and women dedicated to serving our residents and visitors to Sauk Village. It is a full-service law enforcement agency consisting of patrol, investigative and support services divisions. These divisions include assignments such as patrol, canine, investigative, dispatch (911) services, tactical, records, field training, evidence and property, and animal control.

Uniform Patrol Division
Police patrol officers perform general law enforcement duties such as responding to calls for service, enforce laws and ordinances, file reports of incidents, control crowds, arrest law breakers and prevent crime. Police patrol officers patrol a particular area in squad cars or on foot. Police officers also spend a lot of time doing paperwork.
Some of the common job titles are patrolman, police officer, patrol officer, public safety officer and law enforcement officer.  A patrol officer sometimes has to testify in court or act as a witness in criminal and traffic cases.

Criminal Investigations Unit
The Criminal Investigations Unit is responsible for the investigation of Homicides, Robberies, Sexual Assaults, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal Neglect and Abuse cases, as well as property crimes such as Burglary, Arson, Theft, and Fraud.  Detectives are also assigned to the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.  Detectives assigned to this Section are highly skilled Investigators who have earned their positions by demonstrating the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities crucial to a successful Investigator.

Tactical Unit
The Tactical/Criminal Apprehension Team was a vision for the chief which has become a reality.  This unit is comprised of dedicated police officers specializing in problem solving in neighborhoods where normal patrol response is sometimes restrained by the mere volume of calls for service or the length of time needed to resolve the problem.  The Tactical/Criminal Apprehension Team conducts targeted and mission oriented police activities.

S.W.A.T. - Special Weapons and Tactics Unit
The main objective of the S.W.A.T. Unit is to respond to critical incidents and provide for the safety and protection of any hostages, innocent citizens, responding police officers, and perpetrators. Two Sauk Village Police are assigned to the South Suburban Emergency Response Team, (SSERT), a SWAT Unit comprised of officers from south suburban towns.

Records Unit
Information that can be obtained from the Records Unit includes:
OFFICIAL RECORDS DOCUMENTS - Reports are available daily,  Monday through Friday, 8:00AM till 4:00PM.  Reports are normally made available 72 hours after the date of the reported accident/incident.

K-9 Unit
Canine officers are police officers who work with specially trained detector dogs, usually to detect illegal narcotics, track humans, apprehend suspects, and crowd control and community awareness.  Currently, the Sauk Village Police Department has one K-9.

Police Telecommunicator

Police Telecommunicators, (also known as emergency dispatchers, Telecommunicators or 9-1-1 dispatchers) receive calls from individuals who need assistance from Firefighters, Police Officers, and Emergency Medical Services. Once information is obtained from the caller, these dispatchers activate the services necessary to respond to the nature of the call for help. Dispatchers are an integral part of the organization's success.
