Tom Lacheta started with Sauk Village in 1980 as a Police Cadet. He spent the next 4 years working through the cadet
ranks ending his Cadet career as a Cadet Captain in 1984, Tom then went on to become an Auxiliary Officer working from 1984
to 1986 when he was hired as a full time Police Officer. Tom was promoted to Sergeant in 1994, and Administrative Sergeant
in 1995. His next stop was Deputy Chief in 1998 and eventually taking the top cop spot as Chief of Police in February of 2004. Lacheta
has graduated the Basic Law Enforcement Class in Champaign at the University of Illinois, School of Police Staff and Command
at Northwestern University in Evanston and Executive Management Class at Northwestern University of Evanston. Tom continues
to complete his education and has set his goal at a Masters Degree in Public Administration. Tom has a unique approach
to law enforcement management and finds himself far more strict that any of his predecessors. “I have little tolerance
for the small stuff, like walking in the street, speeding, loud music etc.” Tom is a Village resident raising
a 4 year old daughter and a 13 yr old step daughter. Tom is married to wife Liz for 5 years. When asked what his hobbies
where, Tom explained that he has so little free time that he plans on picking up hobbies when he retires. Tom will complete
his 20 years of service in 2006 but plans on spending “a few more years with Sauk Village” before “pulling
the plug.”
