Community Development in Sauk Village

The mission of the Community Development Department is to foster a safe and attractive community with a “built environment” or physical environment characterized by attractive, safe and sound buildings for homeowners and businesses.  To that end, the Community Development Department strives to provide excellent customer service and a clear, logical process for getting building permits and business licenses.

The Village of Sauk Village Community Development Department is charged with three main functions:

  • Issuing building permits and related contractor registrations;
  • Approving business licenses
  • Enforcing municipal codes including property maintenance codes.

The Community Development Department forms including the following documents.  These can be printed out at home and submitted to the Village in person or electronically.  It is recommended that the applicant maintain a copy for easy reference (in addition to Village stored copies).

The Village adheres to the following external building code standards, as published by the International Code Council:

  • International Building Code – 2006 edition
  • International Residential Code – 2006 edition
  • International Plumbing Code – 2006 edition
  • International Electrical Code—Administrative Provisions – 2006 edition
  • International Mechanical Code – 2006 edition
  • International Property Maintenance Code – 2006 edition
  • International Fire Code – 2006 edition.

In addition, the Community Development Department staff can sometimes meet with you in person, if scheduled in advance, to address certain questions you may have.  Please be aware that much of the department staff work is performed in the field and in during “plan reviews” offsite and so there is limited time for in-person consultations.
