From the Chief

Fire Chief Stephen Barrett is a man of service and honor. Stephen is a graduate of Thornton Township High School in Harvey, IL, after which he attended Central State University in Wilberforce, OH. He later graduated from Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL, with a degree in Fire Science. Then Graduating from Southern Illinois University with his bachelor’s degree in public safety management.

Since his youth, Stephen has always had the heart to serve. In 2019, Stephen became the first African American Fire Chief of the Sauk Village Fire Department, where he served for 15 years prior. Stephen believes strongly in being active and involved in community service, ensuring department diversity, hiring from within the community, and collaborating with other agencies to ensure public safety. Since 2020 Chief Barrett has served on several committees within the Illinois Fire Chief Association. One being the Funeral committee and the other is the DEI committee.  Currently Chief Barrett Serves as the Vice President over MABAS 27. Just in a short time he has brought major change for the good.
