Fire Chief Stephen Barrett

Chief Stephen Barrett is a native of Harvey IL, where he attended and graduated from Thornton Township High School. He attended Central State University in Wilberforce Ohio. He also attended Prairie State College in Chicago Heights. Stephen received his Fire Science education through Prairie State College where he obtained an Associate’s Degree.

Fire Chief Stephen Barrett is a 14-year Veteran of the Sauk Village Fire Department. when he joined as a paid-on-call firefighter. He has risen through the ranks successively serving as a Firefighter, Engineer, and Lieutenant. Chief Barrett is married to his beautiful wife Clinette 2 Children Arnell and Tyler 3 grand children Arnell Jr. Aniyah and Adonis. He serves as an Associate Minster at his church South Suburban Missionary Baptist Church in Harvey IL. He is tremendously grateful for his loving family’s unwavering support throughout his career and as he steps into his new role.

Chief Barrett has a strong passion for his Department. Just in a short time he has brought major change for the good. Chief Barrett was sworn in at a board meeting in November of 2019 and started officially as of December 1st, 2019. As of January 1st, 2020 Sauk, Village Fire Department went from being staffed 1 guy from 6am until 6pm to now being staffed 24/7. At some point Chief Barrett would like to see the Department back at a full-time status but for now is willing to take it one step at a time.
